the cornstalk curse
Assemblage Sculpture / 48” x 48” x 64” / 2025
The Cornstalk Curse began with a story about a curse placed on American settlers for taking land, where corn becomes a quiet form of consequence. Whether true or not, the idea frames corn as both resource and burden. It sits at the center of systems that shape food, fuel, and material culture. In the piece, corn becomes a foundation for ambition while the human figure is reduced to absence. The jeans stand in for bodies that are no longer present but still bound. The curse is systemic. Growth is controlled, and labor remains trapped within it.
